After delivering vaccines faster than his critics expected, or even hoped, former President Donald Trump and first lady Melania received their shots at the White House in January before leaving office.

A Trump adviser told Axios of the inoculation, but did not specify which vaccine they received.

Trump himself had been infected with the COVID-19 virus, staying a weekend at a military hospital in Washington, D.C., at the height of the presidential campaign last fall. He recovered quickly and hailed the therapeutics developed by the U.S. to combat the coronavirus.

The Trump administration also put Operation Warp Speed together to help deliver vaccines to Americans in less than a year of the first infection in the U.S.

“We took care of a lot of people — including, I guess, on Dec. 21, we took care of Joe Biden, because he got his shot, he got his vaccine,” Trump said at CPAC on Sunday. “So everybody, go get your shot.”

Trump faced some skepticism for waiting to get his vaccine, but the president frequently hailed having the antibodies from recovering. Former Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams defended the president for not getting in line for the vaccine sooner.
